February 2018 Prayer Newsletter Pastor Teng Wang

December 26-29, 2018, we staff joined the Mission conference in Ontario, Los Angeles, with a total of 3500 people and 70 different mission organizations participation. During this meeting, we had opportunities to talk with brothers and sisters from other states. We are deeply aware that the extent of drug abuse in the United States is unimaginable. The drug abusers’ population not only increase but also their ages decrease. The demands of gospel rehabilitation increase more and more. There still are many “unreached groups” in this world need the gospel.

What is “unreached groups”?  Dr. Donald McGavran, the father of church growth, defines it as a large group of individuals who have something in common, such as language, religion, bloodline, residence, profession, occasion, worldview, or a combination of several areas. They recognize each other as “one of their own kind.” This group of people who are not only large in numbers but also have their own unique culture and values. They are drug addicts. According to the Herald monthly report, the population of adolescent drug addicts has increased by 162 %. More than a fifth of adolescents among Asian Pacific Americans between the ages of 12 and 17 admit of their using drugs. Over the past five years, Asian-Pacific youth adolescents receiving treatment have increased 52%. Mr. Leo, director of the Asia-Pacific Rehabilitation Center, said: “The situation is much worse than you think.” For this reason, the mission strategy for this group needs to approach them according to their social structure through different organizations for its effectiveness.

Operation Dawn in the USA upheld the idea of helping this group of people to start her ministry thirteen years ago till this day. The support from the church body of brothers and sisters is increasing. We also see the life changes of many drug addicts and give praises to our God. Please continue to pray for the needy addicts. Please pray particularly for our renovation work on rehabilitation farms in Gilroy to proceed smoothly and we hope to move to this new location around May of this year.
